Farm Update 05-04-19

Hi everybody. I hope you all had a nice winter and spring. I’m sure some of you have been wondering where the updates were hiding. I have been quite busy this winter and spring just trying to get things organized for this season, and didn’t think there was a whole lot to report.

I have not yet finalized an opening date, though I am leaning toward Memorial Day Weekend. I’ll get another update out next week with more information about that.

Here on the farm things are chugging along. Two of the three greenhouses are nearly full of plants, with the third due to start filling up in just a few days.

For those who drive by, you’ll have noticed that I’ve finally been able to get started with the field work. The weather, and lingering effects of winter have really slowed that progress down this year, but it should all be fine. Cold-hardy plants will start going in shortly.

The chickens arrived about a week and half ago. There was, however, a bit of a screw-up and I was only able to get 60 chickens this year. Generally they’ve been doing well. They are settling into their new home and getting used to all the sights and sounds. They are not laying yet, but given my experience last year, I don’t think it will be long before eggs are here too.

Jam production is winding down. Normally I would be done with it already, but my schedule and obligations prevented me from doing so sooner. If you don’t think you’ll be able to wait until the official opening to satisfy your cravings, you can give me a call or text to arrange a day/time to come buy and get some. I’ll be updating the What’s Available page shortly with this year’s varieties.

I guess that’s about it for now. Looking forward to really getting this growing season going and seeing you all soon.
